Are All Costs The Same?
To be quite frank, no.
Standby Generators are custom fit and permanently installed with no two installations being the same. Midwest Electric & Generator will conduct a free in-home site visit to inspect your home and existing systems before an accurate cost estimate can be given.
As the homeowner, you will have certain options to chose from, such as the generator unit and transfer switch, but the actual installation work is what will influence the cost the most.
Here are the three main factors that drive the cost of installation:
1) Location
The more accessible the location is for the standby generator, the less manpower it will take to get the unit set into place.
When choosing a location give thought to aesthetics and functionality. Even though the standby generator enclosures look very nice in appearance, chances are you’re not going to put it out in front of your home.
Blending in with your home or business and the surrounding landscape can still be cost-effective. Choose a flat level of ground as your standby generator will be placed on a pad.
Some standby generators are air-cooled so be sure to avoid placing the unit in a corner, under a deck, or anywhere obstructed from adequate air flow. Allow at least 3 feet away from any landscape structure and 5 feet away from windows or doors. This also allows room for any maintenance also.
2) Fuel
When you purchase a standby generator from Midwest Electric & Generator, you choose to fuel it with liquid propane gas or natural gas. Again, location is key because the further the fuel lines have to be run, the more the cost will add up. Larger standby generators require more fuel and will need bigger pipping, which affects the cost.
3) Electrical
It is to be the same concept as the fuel lines; the further the distance away from your standby generator, the automatic transfer switch and your home, the more wiring and electrical work will be required adding cost.
Larger standby generators require larger wires. There are differences in transfer switches as well which are installed differently per model.
